Tinubu renews tenure of NTA, NAN DGs for another three years

President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenures of the heads of two key Nigerian media organizations: Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Ali Mohammed Ali as Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Their appointments have been renewed for an additional three-year term each. This second term is set to commence on October 20, 2026, following the expiration of their current three-year tenure, which began on October 20, 2023. The decision was announced in a statement released by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Dembos, originally from Yola, Adamawa State, has a long career in broadcasting. He previously served as the National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union and held the position of Executive Director of Marketing at NTA before his retirement in 2017. He joined NTA as an announcer in 1989 and rose through the ranks, including serving as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.

Ali is described as a veteran journalist and media manager with over 30 years of experience, possessing a keen interest in media evolution and digital content development. He holds degrees in English and International Affairs, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications. President Tinubu has encouraged both executives to uphold their organizational mandates and actively promote the government's "Renewed Hope Agenda" during their renewed terms.
