Tinubu's allies dismiss opposition alliance as 'exercise in futility' ahead of 2027

Supporters of President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid have confidently dismissed any potential alliance among opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, as posing no threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The movement would continue to present what he described as verifiable facts about the administration’s performance as it mobilises support for the 2027 elections.

The Renewed Hope Project 2027, an organization backing Tinubu's bid, officially launched in Abuja under the theme "A New Beginning, A Shared Vision, With Greater Nigeria." The group's Grand Patron, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stated that the movement is essential for mobilizing votes for Tinubu in the upcoming elections. He asserted that the Tinubu administration is addressing Nigeria's structural challenges effectively, unlike previous governments, citing local government autonomy and digital reforms as key initiatives.

Meanwhile, the G100, a coalition of concerned Nigerians, has initiated consultations with leaders from six opposition political parties. These discussions involve figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, aiming to forge a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 general election. The G100 reported that engagements with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have been constructive, with camps of Atiku, Seyi Makinde, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) expressing openness to a summit on August 18.

The Tinubu administration was addressing structural challenges in the country from their roots, unlike previous governments that, according to him, failed to tackle some of the fundamental problems confronting Nigeria.

Despite the opposition's efforts to consolidate, Tinubu's supporters remain optimistic. They believe the administration's focus on tackling fundamental issues and attracting foreign investment signals a positive trajectory for Nigeria. The Renewed Hope movement plans to continue highlighting the administration's achievements as it mobilizes support for 2027, arguing that meaningful national development requires difficult decisions and sacrifices.
