Tô Lâm meets Vietnamese community in Russia, urges support for Resolution 23

Vietnamese General Secretary and President Tô Lâm met Vietnamese embassy staff and members of the Vietnamese community in Moscow on the evening of Sept. 7, accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation from Vietnam.

Vietnam’s ambassador to Russia, Đặng Minh Khôi, said the Vietnamese community remained united and consistently looked toward its homeland. He also said Russian authorities and local governments had continued to support the community and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese residents.

Đỗ Xuân Hoàng, chairman of the Association of Vietnamese People in Russia, said community members understood that each action helped shape the image of Vietnam and its people. He said Vietnamese residents encouraged one another to respect local culture, customs and social life, while building a community that was united but not closed, integrated but not assimilated. Success, he added, should go hand in hand with responsibility.

Tô Lâm briefed the community on developments at home, including Vietnam’s ambition to achieve growth of at least double digits and become a high-income country. He said the Party and state would continue to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese living abroad and create conditions for closer ties with the homeland.

He also highlighted Resolution 23 on work concerning overseas Vietnamese, recently issued by the Politburo. The resolution describes Vietnamese abroad as an inseparable part of the national community and an important strategic resource for strengthening national power. Tô Lâm called on Vietnamese in Russia to support the resolution, participate more deeply in national development and national defense, and maintain a civilized, dynamic, responsible community that preserves its identity while obeying local laws. He particularly urged scientists, experts and intellectuals to help connect knowledge, science, technology and new cooperation initiatives.
