Toronto man flees shootout in stolen rideshare with customer still inside: police

A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing a shootout in a stolen rideshare vehicle with a passenger still inside.

Toronto police responded to reports of gunshots in the Polson Street and Cherry Street area early Sunday morning. Investigators stated that an exchange of gunfire occurred between two individuals before the accused, a 25-year-old man from Brampton, allegedly stole a rideshare vehicle. A passenger was reportedly inside the vehicle at the time of the theft.

During his escape, the suspect allegedly struck pedestrians and vehicles. Police confirmed that two victims were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and the accused was also injured. One person struck by the fleeing vehicle sustained injuries, though none of the injuries reported were considered life-threatening.

The man was subsequently arrested and charged with several offenses, including recklessly discharging a firearm, robbery, and four counts of forcible confinement. The rideshare passenger's condition was not mentioned in the police statement.
