Torrential Rains Flood Over 100 Homes in Six Romanian Counties and Bucharest

Torrential rains battered six Romanian counties and the capital, Bucharest, on Wednesday, leading to widespread flooding and prompting emergency interventions. The severe weather inundated over 100 homes and affected numerous other properties across 24 localities.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), emergency teams worked from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM to pump water out of 106 houses, 50 courtyards, 12 basements, and four business premises. The cleanup also involved removing 14 fallen trees and debris from five buildings. Four vehicles were damaged by the downpour.

The most critical situation unfolded in Pleașa, Prahova county, where a building with 20 studio apartments on the ground floor was flooded. Ten people, including a child, were evacuated from this building, and two additional residents from nearby homes were relocated to a shelter. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

IGSU reinforced intervention forces in Prahova with additional firefighters and equipment from Teleorman county and a special intervention unit. Authorities continue to monitor the weather situation and advise citizens to avoid affected areas and follow official guidance.
