Traffic Accident Trial Resulting in Student's Death Postponed in Vĩnh Long

The Vĩnh Long Provincial People's Court No. 4 was scheduled to hold a preliminary hearing for a traffic violation case resulting in the death of a female student. The accused, 34-year-old truck driver Nguyễn Văn Bảo Trung, appeared in court for the proceedings.

Security was notably tight around the courthouse, with police conducting thorough checks of journalists and attendees before allowing them entry. The court session began with the presiding judge announcing the decision to bring the case to trial and the clerk listing the involved parties.

During the proceedings, the mother of the accused, Nguyễn Thị Nga, stated that her son's health has been poor since the accident. She mentioned that the family had attempted to visit the victim's family to offer condolences and compensation but were refused. She also noted that she had offered 150 million Vietnamese dong (approximately $6,000 USD) in an attempt to mitigate the consequences of the accident.

However, the victim's family and their lawyers were absent from the hearing. The representative from the Provincial People's Procuracy No. 4 requested a postponement of the trial, a motion that was supported by the defendant's family representative. Following deliberation, the panel of judges decided to temporarily suspend the trial, with a new date to be announced later. The investigation determined that the truck driver bore the primary fault for the accident.
