Traffic Restrictions and Public Transport Changes in Vilnius Center on Sunday for Velomarathon

Vilnius is preparing for significant traffic disruptions on Sunday, August 23, as the city center will be subject to restrictions from 3:00 AM to 7:00 PM to accommodate a velomarathon. While organizers aim to minimize inconvenience, allowing entry and movement within the central part of the city, specific routes will be affected.

Entry into the city center will be possible via Geležinio Vilko and A. Goštauto streets, with exit through Lukiškių Street. However, a section of Gedimino Avenue, from A. Goštauto Street to Gynėjų Street, will be closed to traffic from 9:00 AM on August 22 until 10:00 PM on August 23. Additionally, a part of A. Mickevičiaus Street, from A. Goštauto to Vytauto Street, will be inaccessible from 6:00 PM on August 22 to 10:00 PM on August 23.

Public transportation will also see substantial changes. From 4:30 AM to 7:00 PM, numerous bus and trolleybus routes will be rerouted, some shortened, and certain trolleybus routes will either start later or be temporarily suspended. Specific changes include the 1G bus route being diverted via Olandų Street, with additional stops, and not serving the Žaliasis tiltas, Vinco Kudirkos aikštė, and Islandijos stops until 7:00 PM. The 3G route will also be rerouted, bypassing several central stops until 7:00 PM, while the 3G-A route will be shortened.

Other affected routes include the 6G, which will be diverted via Šeimyniškių Street and Konstitucijos Avenue, and the 10 and 11 routes, which will also experience detours and altered stop services. The 22 route will be rerouted from V. Kudirkos Street. Residents and visitors are advised to check specific route changes and plan their travel accordingly to navigate the altered traffic and public transport conditions during the event.
