Tragedy: 10-year-old girl dies after boat capsizes in Kankintú

A tragic incident occurred in the Kankintú district of the Ngäbe-Buglé region, where a 10-year-old girl lost her life following the capsizing of a boat. The girl was traveling with her sister when the vessel overturned.

Official reports indicate that adverse weather conditions in the area caused the fluvial accident. The young girl tragically died by drowning. This incident follows another recent tragedy where a young person was swept away by a stream in Darién.

In response to this unfortunate event, the Maritime Authority of Panama (AMP) issued an urgent appeal to the public. They stressed the importance of extreme safety measures when navigating, particularly in waters that pose evident risks. The authorities also recommended that all individuals using water transport must carry life vests and other essential safety equipment.

The Ministry of Education extended its public condolences to the family of the student and the entire educational community of the Bucori School, acknowledging this as an irreparable loss.
