Tragedy in Italy: 4-year-old girl from Austria found dead in pool

A tragedy unfolded in Milano Marittima, Italy, when a four-year-old girl from Austria drowned in a hotel swimming pool on Saturday afternoon. The incident has sent shockwaves through Austrian media, with reports detailing the harrowing events.

The girl was vacationing with her parents and two older sisters. After lunch, her mother and the elder sisters returned to their hotel room, while her father stayed in the children's play area with the young girl. According to relatives, the father, described as very caring, momentarily lost sight of his daughter. He began a frantic search throughout the hotel and their room.

Surveillance footage showed the four-year-old descending stairs to the hotel pool. Approximately ten minutes later, two teenage hotel guests discovered her motionless in the water. They immediately pulled her out and called for help. A doctor, also a guest at the hotel, initiated resuscitation efforts, which were continued by emergency medical personnel. However, all attempts to save the child were in vain. She later died at a nearby hospital.

Italian state prosecutors have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is examining how the girl entered the water, whether she fell or entered on her own. Authorities found that three access doors to the pool area, which should have been closed according to regulations, were reportedly open. Investigators are scrutinizing whether the area around the pool was adequately secured, as the pool was closed at the time and no lifeguard was on duty. The water depth ranges from 70 to 150 centimeters. The investigation may involve hotel officials and the girl's 56-year-old father, who could face charges of negligent homicide.
