Travelling to Oman? Here's what you can bring duty-free

Travelers entering Oman will now operate under revised customs regulations concerning duty-free personal items and gifts, as announced by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) Directorate General of Customs. Decision No. 110/2026 outlines updated conditions for these exemptions.

The core change limits the total value of duty-free personal belongings and gifts to OMR300. Crucially, these items must be intended for the traveler's personal use and cannot be in commercial quantities. This measure aims to ensure the exemptions benefit individuals rather than facilitate trade.

In addition to the value cap, the regulations have reduced the duty-free allowance for cigarettes. Travelers can now bring a maximum of 200 cigarettes duty-free, a decrease from the previous allowance of 400 cigarettes. Any quantity exceeding this new limit will be subject to customs duties.

Furthermore, the duty-free exemption is specifically for travelers who are not considered frequent crossers of customs checkpoints and are not engaged in trading the goods they bring. This stipulation is designed to prevent the abuse of personal baggage exemptions for commercial import purposes. These updated provisions are part of broader amendments to the Executive Regulations of the GCC Unified Customs Law, which also include enhancements to electronic customs clearance and revised rules for temporary imports and other shipment types.
