Trial for collapsed Hayat Site adjourned pending completion of case file

The trial concerning the collapse of the Hayat Site in the Yeşilyurt district of Malatya, which tragically claimed 16 lives during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6, 2023, has been adjourned. The 11th hearing in the case took place at the Malatya 1st High Criminal Court.

During the hearing, which was attended by the lawyers representing the defendants, the court decided to postpone the proceedings. The adjournment is intended to allow for the completion of outstanding deficiencies within the case file. The next hearing is scheduled for October 6, 2026.

In a previous session, the public prosecutor presented their final opinion (mütalaa). This opinion called for the prosecution of technical supervisors and certain public officials from the municipality. They are accused of "causing the death and injury of multiple people through conscious negligence."

Lawyers for the involved parties are expected to present their defenses against the prosecutor's final opinion during the upcoming hearing. The case continues to navigate the legal process, seeking accountability for the building's collapse.
