Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister convenes expanded security meeting to ‘‘enhance readiness and address security challenges’’

Libyan Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, who also serves as Minister of Defence, led an expanded security meeting in Tripoli to review recent developments and bolster the nation's readiness. The gathering was prompted by multiple drone attacks targeting the Zawia Oil Refinery and the Water Desalination Plant, carried out by state-recognized security forces and militias. Attendees included key figures such as the Minister of Interior, Chief of General Staff, Director of Military Intelligence, and commanders of various brigades and security agencies. The meeting focused on enhancing coordination among military and security bodies to effectively manage potential threats and protect citizens and critical infrastructure. Prime Minister Dbeibah emphasized the imperative of taking firm action against any actions that jeopardize security or vital facilities, stressing the importance of elevating inter-agency coordination and preparedness. The Libya Herald commentary notes that the Tripoli government's actions might be mere posturing, as it has historically avoided direct confrontation with the militias controlling Zawia, a city divided by tribal, political, and security force lines often fighting over control of the oil refinery and its revenue.
