Troops kill scores of terrorists in Borno airstrikes

Nigerian troops have successfully executed intelligence-led precision airstrikes against terrorist concentrations in Borno State, neutralizing scores of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters. The operations, which took place between the night of August 21 and the early hours of August 22, were disclosed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.

In one instance near the Aduwa axis in Monguno LGA, an armed reconnaissance platform detected a large concentration of suspected terrorists within a settlement. Following authorization, a precision strike neutralized approximately 16 terrorists in two engagements.

The strikes successfully degraded the identified targets and disrupted attempts by terrorist elements to assemble, regroup and operate freely within the theatre.

In a separate operation around Buratai in Biu LGA, another air platform tracked and engaged a group of about 10 suspected terrorists attempting to regroup. The precision strike successfully impacted the target. These operations highlight the increasing effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI's integrated ISR capabilities in detecting and disrupting terrorist activities before they can pose a threat to troops or vulnerable communities.

Following appropriate operational procedures and authorisation, a precision strike was conducted against the identified target. Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment indicated significant effects on the terrorist concentration with about 16 terrorists neutralised in 2 precision strikes.

The strikes are expected to further diminish the terrorists' freedom of action, disrupt their command and control, and increase pressure on their logistics and fighting formations. This action is part of a broader campaign by Operation HADIN KAI to degrade terrorist capabilities and foster a more secure environment in the region.
