Troops target Dogo Gide, three other terrorist leaders in Zamfara offensive

Nigerian troops have launched a significant offensive in Zamfara State targeting four suspected terrorist leaders: Dogo Gide, Najaja, Nasanda, and Buba Oris. The operation, conducted by the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully disrupted a planned large-scale movement of armed fighters, according to military sources.

The offensive was prompted by intelligence received on July 25, indicating that a substantial number of armed fighters had gathered along the Barayarzaki Riverline in Anka Local Government Area under the command of the four leaders. These fighters were allegedly preparing for coordinated attacks across Zamfara and neighboring states.

In response, troops executed precision air strikes on suspected terrorist positions and strategic crossing points along the riverline. Simultaneously, ground forces from the 8 Division Strike Force established ambush teams and initiated follow-up operations to intercept fleeing militants. The coordinated assault forced the armed groups to retreat towards Barayan Zaki while attempting to cross the Gummi–Anka Main Supply Route.

The pursuit led to a gun battle at Kombo High Ground along the Anka–Gummi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. Military sources reported that several suspected terrorists were killed during the exchange, with others escaping into nearby forests. One soldier sustained injuries and was evacuated for treatment, but no military equipment was lost.

Follow-up clearance operations on July 26 yielded 13 rounds of PKT machine gun ammunition and one machine gun round. Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues to conduct intelligence-driven air and ground operations to dismantle terrorist networks, restrict the movement of bandit leaders, and protect communities and security formations. This latest offensive marks a considerable setback for some of the region's most wanted terrorist leaders as security forces maintain pressure to enhance safety across Zamfara and adjacent states.
