Trough to Bring Showers and Heat to Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is bracing for a significant weather shift as a trough system is forecast to bring moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to various provinces on Sunday. The Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) issued the warning, noting that high temperatures and a pronounced heat index will continue to affect the nation.

In the morning hours, isolated showers are anticipated in La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, the Greater Santo Domingo area, and San Cristóbal, attributed to lingering moisture from a tropical wave and the trough's influence. By the afternoon, precipitation is expected to intensify over Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan, Dajabón, and Elías Piña.

For the remainder of the country, Indomet predicts mostly sunny skies with minor cloud cover increases. The persistent heat is a major concern, prompting the meteorological institute to advise residents to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and opt for light-colored, lightweight clothing.

Special attention is urged for vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses, who are most susceptible to the adverse effects of high temperatures. The warnings aim to mitigate the health risks associated with the prevailing hot and humid conditions.
