Truck Collision on National Freeway 1 Leaves One Driver Critically Injured

A serious traffic accident involving two large trucks occurred on National Freeway 1 in Tanzi, Taichung, early Tuesday morning, leaving one driver in critical condition. The incident happened around 4:13 AM on the southbound lanes near kilometer 170.6.

The first truck, driven by a 61-year-old man identified as Chen, reportedly crashed into the guardrail and came to a stop in the outer lane due to apparent fatigue. Shortly after, a second truck, driven by a 50-year-old man identified as Cheng, collided with Chen's stationary vehicle while traveling in the same lane. The impact caused severe injuries to Chen, who lost consciousness and is currently receiving emergency treatment. Cheng sustained minor injuries.

Both drivers underwent alcohol tests, which came back negative. Traffic police are now investigating the precise cause of the collision, examining factors such as driver fatigue and attention lapses. Authorities are urging drivers to rest when tired and avoid distractions to prevent similar accidents.

The accident caused traffic disruptions on the freeway as emergency services and investigators worked at the scene. The investigation will determine fault and any potential contributing factors beyond driver fatigue.
