Trump envoy Kushner says there is no guarantee the Ukraine war will end by winter

Jared Kushner says the United States is working toward ending the war in Ukraine by winter, but he is not promising that the effort will succeed.

Asked whether Washington believed the Russia-Ukraine war could end by winter, US President Donald Trump's special envoy described the task as exceptionally difficult. "It's a very, very hard problem, but we're going to try. And I think if we can achieve that, it'd be an incredible thing. That doesn't mean we will achieve it, but it's very important to try. So we're going to continue to do it," Kushner told journalists on Sunday, 6 September.

Kushner also commented on his latest meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. His remarks came after talks in Kyiv involving Ukraine, Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Kushner, and national security advisers from France, Britain and Germany.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the participants agreed to meet again soon in the same format. He said three rounds of talks had taken place on 6 September and described all of them as "very substantive", with discussions focused on possible parameters for ending the war and short-term support for Ukraine.
