Trump hints at renaming Atlantic and Pacific Oceans

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans could be renamed, hinting at a potential shift in geographical nomenclature. This idea emerged during a signing ceremony for executive orders, where Trump also declared Lake Ontario would henceforth be known as 'Lake America'.

"We have a bay and we have a lake," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "Now we just need an ocean. Maybe we'll have to rename the Atlantic and/or the Pacific Ocean. Maybe we'll rename both."

This follows a previous instance where Trump altered a geographical name. On August 26, he had already alluded to a new name for Lake Ontario, stating, "We'll make a little change - we'll call it something other than Lake Ontario. We'll call it Lake America." He then physically crossed out the original name and wrote "LAKE AMERICA" above it with a marker.

During the same Oval Office remarks, Trump also addressed trade relations with Canada, stating, "Canada has been ripping us off in trade for a long time." He added, "They want to be treated like [the U.S.] state, but we can't do that anymore. I've been thinking about that for a long time."

The comments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Ottawa following the breakdown of trade talks. Lake Ontario is one of the Great Lakes, three of which border both the U.S. and Canada. The dispute has significantly intensified since late last week.
