Trump: Netanyahu to visit U.S. next week; Trump misidentifies Senator Schumer

Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to visit the United States next week. The announcement came during a speech Trump delivered at a dinner for the White House Correspondents' Association.

During his remarks, Trump also made a controversial statement, mistakenly referring to U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, a prominent Democrat, as Palestinian. Trump further jested that Sharia law was Schumer's "new founding principle." This is not the first time Trump has faced criticism for referring to Schumer in this manner, with Muslim and Jewish rights organizations previously condemning such remarks as offensive and disrespectful.

Netanyahu's office confirmed the Prime Minister's travel plans, stating he will arrive in Washington on Monday and meet with Trump on Tuesday. Netanyahu is also expected to attend the funeral of the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham. The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu is set to occur as the conflict involving the U.S. and Israel against Iran enters its fifth month.
