Trump Opens Political War Chest, Pours $10 Million Into Texas Senate Race

Donald Trump has begun opening his political war chest for the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, directing at least $10 million toward the Republican Senate race in Texas.

MAGA Inc., the super PAC affiliated with Trump, will spend the money to support Republican candidate Ken Paxton. Federal Election Commission documents show that half of the allocation, $5 million, will fund negative advertising targeting Democratic candidate James Talarico. The other $5 million will pay for positive advertising supporting Paxton.

The spending marks MAGA Inc.’s first major outlay for a fall general-election contest ahead of the November midterms. The Texas race has taken on added importance because it is no longer viewed as a routine contest in a state that has generally been considered safe for Republicans. It is among the races that could help determine control of the U.S. Senate, where Republicans currently hold a 53-47 advantage.

Trump has indicated that the $10 million is only the beginning. “I will spend whatever amount of money is necessary to try to help us,” he told reporters at the White House on Friday, according to The Associated Press.

Reuters previously reported that Trump planned to spend between $400 million and $500 million from MAGA Inc. to help Republicans in the midterms. Trump has said the super PAC holds close to $1 billion. The AP reported that MAGA Inc. had more than $403 million in cash at the end of July, exceeding the cash holdings of the main party committees, although much of it had not yet been used in competitive races.

Republican concerns have grown as the election approaches, with television and digital advertising space becoming more expensive and limited. Texas is a particular focus. Trump endorsed Paxton in the Republican primary and helped the Texas attorney general defeat a four-term incumbent senator.
