Trump’s Approval Rating Falls to a Record Low, Poll Finds

Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a record low, with only 33 percent of respondents backing the current political course of the US president. Support among Republicans also dropped to an anti-record 72 percent, according to the Financial Times.

Economic concerns are weighing heavily on the figures. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed believe the US economy is moving in the wrong direction, while 57 percent say their financial position has worsened since Trump took office. Just 53 percent of Republican voters support the president’s economic policy, almost eight percentage points lower than a month earlier.

The White House’s trade policy is also drawing opposition. Fifty-six percent of respondents rejected the introduction of 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods. The measure was opposed by 60 percent of independent voters and nearly one-third of Republicans.

The drop in support comes less than two months before the congressional midterm elections, scheduled for Nov. 3. About 46 percent of participants said Trump’s involvement in the campaign complicates the position of Republican candidates.

Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress. Voters will choose all 435 members of the House of Representatives and roughly one-third of the Senate, determining the balance of power for the final two years of Trump’s term.
