Trump says Strait of Hormuz will soon become US territory

During a political rally in New York, former U.S. President Donald Trump declared his intention to soon claim the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory, following what he described as Iran's "very badly defeated" state. Trump made the announcement with a chuckle, stating, "pretty soon I’ll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States."

Trump, alongside Israel, initiated a conflict against Iran on February 28, citing aims to end the country's nuclear program and incite a popular uprising. However, Iran retaliated by establishing de facto control over significant portions of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy and commodity shipments. The U.S. Navy has since imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in an effort to cripple its economy.
