Tuesday’s sports agenda: Champions League, Libertadores, US Open and La Vuelta

The clubs have a long history of encounters, but this is their first meeting in the tournament. Independiente Santa Fe rely on veteran striker Hugo Rodallega against Vasco da Gama, who are seeking a semifinal place after a 15-year absence.

In Berlin, Germany play South Korea and Hungary face Japan in the first two matches of the Women’s Basketball World Cup round that determines the quarterfinalists. At the US Open in New York, two-time champion and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz faces American Ben Shelton. Frances Tiafoe meets Alex Michelsen, while Aryna Sabalenka plays Linda Noskova and Jessica Pegula faces Emma Navarro.

La Vuelta resumes after Monday’s rest day with a 181.1-kilometer stage from Cortegana to Palos de la Frontera in Huelva province. The route favors a sprint finish. Bolivia will also attend the South American Games in Santa Fe, hoping for podiums, particularly in racquetball, which returns after missing the 2022 edition.
