Tunisia allocates 67 million dinars for 2026-2027 school year support

Tunisia's government has mobilized an additional 67 million dinars to support families for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year. This funding is part of a social aid program designed to assist poor and low-income families through financial and in-kind assistance, including free transportation for eligible students. The announcement was made during a restricted ministerial council meeting on August 14, 2026, chaired by the head of government, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri.

The meeting focused on preparations for the new school, university, and vocational training year. Zaafrani Zenzri stressed the importance of enhancing coordination among central, regional, and local structures to anticipate and address potential challenges. Key measures include programs to reduce class overcrowding, improve student distribution, and expedite the construction of new educational facilities.

Further initiatives aim to bolster school and university transport fleets, optimize routes, and increase security around educational institutions. The government also emphasized the need to accelerate infrastructure work, ensure the availability of equipment, and maintain regular access to drinking water in schools. Efforts will be made to guarantee the timely and sufficient supply of subsidized textbooks and notebooks at stable prices, while combating speculation and monopolies in distribution channels.

The government also prioritizes the digitalization of educational services, planning to expand the "Vie scolaire" platform and remote registration to improve governance, streamline procedures, and enhance student tracking. The school health system will be strengthened with improved screening, vaccination, first aid services, and psychological support, alongside preventive and awareness campaigns.
