Tunisia appoints Chaabani after World Cup disaster

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has appointed Moine Chaabani as the new national team coach, signing him to a four-year contract. This decision follows a turbulent period for the team, which saw two different coaches lead the squad through a disastrous World Cup campaign marked by three losses.

Chaabani brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously achieved significant success with Esperance Tunis. During his tenure, he secured two African Champions League titles and five Tunisian league championships. He has also gained international coaching experience in Egypt and Morocco, most recently winning the league title with RS Berkane.

This appointment marks the fourth coaching change for the Tunisian national team this year alone. The team has seen a rapid succession of coaches, including Jalel Kadri, Sami Trabelsi, Montasser Louhichi, Faouzi Benzarti, Kais Yaakoubi, Sabri Lamouchi, and Herve Renard, highlighting the instability within the team's leadership.

Tunisia had initially raised hopes by qualifying for the World Cup without conceding a goal. However, their performance in the tournament was disappointing, culminating in heavy group-stage defeats.
