Tunisia Braces for Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain, and Strong Winds

Tunisia's National Institute of Meteorology (INM) has issued a weather alert for Saturday, August 15, 2026, predicting the formation of thunderstorms accompanied by rain across several regions. The meteorological situation is expected to favor the development of these storms, particularly in the western and central parts of the country, before extending to eastern areas.

According to the INM's follow-up bulletin, precipitation is anticipated to be locally abundant. Cumul totals are forecast to be between 20 and 40 millimeters, especially in the governorates of Béja, Siliana, Le Kef, Zaghouan, Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, and Sfax. In some areas, the rainfall could reach up to 60 millimeters, particularly in the Kasserine governorate and the Sahel regions.

In addition to heavy rainfall, the INM has also warned of localized hail showers. Strong wind gusts are expected to occur beneath the storm cells, with speeds potentially exceeding 80 km/h temporarily. These conditions pose a risk of localized flooding and disruption.
