Tunisia injects over 8.4 million dinars for tourism cleanliness and development

Tunisia's Ministry of Tourism is intensifying efforts to ensure a smooth summer tourist season by injecting over 8.4 million dinars into cleanliness and infrastructure projects. The announcement, made via an official statement on Wednesday, details the mobilization of additional funds from the Tourism Zones Protection Fund.

These financial resources are earmarked for improving tourist sites, acquiring sanitation equipment, and providing logistical support to municipalities during the peak season. A significant portion, 6.75 million dinars, will directly fund development projects and the purchase of cleaning materials. An additional 1.675 million dinars will be distributed among 20 tourist municipalities to enhance the maintenance of tourist routes. The ministry will also cover 60% of the costs for mechanical beach cleaning programs.

The measures were formalized during a joint monitoring committee meeting for the tourist season, chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Sofiane Tekaya. Representatives from various relevant ministries were present. The meeting assessed the season's progress across the country, reviewing strategic sectors including supply, establishment security, cultural activities, public hygiene, and transportation. Concrete solutions were identified for current sector constraints.

Beyond financial allocations, the ministry emphasized strengthening on-site monitoring. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 4,000 inspection operations have been carried out at hotels, tourist restaurants, and travel agencies. These rigorous checks focused on commercial transparency, service quality, safety, overall hygiene, and compliance related to swimming pools, thalassotherapy centers, and excursion routes.
