Tunisia sacks coach Sabri Lamouchi after Sweden's 5-1 World Cup thrashing

Tunisia's World Cup campaign has seen an immediate coaching casualty, with Sabri Lamouchi dismissed following the team's heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match.

This marks the fourth time a national team coach has been fired during a World Cup tournament. The 1998 World Cup saw three such dismissals: Henryk Kasperczak of Tunisia after two group stage losses, Cha Bum Kun of South Korea after losing their first two matches, and Carlos Alberto Parreira of Saudi Arabia following defeats to Denmark and the host nation.

Lamouchi's tenure was exceptionally brief, lasting only five games with a single friendly win. Unlike previous dismissals that sometimes allowed a grace period, Lamouchi faced immediate consequences after the crushing loss to Sweden.

"Starting the competition with such a tough defeat is really difficult," Lamouchi stated after the match, acknowledging the team's errors. "We made too many mistakes, and this is not something we can afford. We are shooting ourselves in the foot, we are hurting ourselves."

Hervé Renard, a coach with World Cup experience, has taken over the Tunisian national team in Lamouchi's place.
