Tupac Shakur murder trial begins in Las Vegas

Nearly three decades after the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, a trial has begun in Las Vegas for Duane "Keffe D" Davis, who prosecutors allege organized the 1996 killing. Davis, 63, faces charges including murder with the use of a deadly weapon and has pleaded not guilty. He has been in custody since 2023. The trial is expected to last about a month, and while it is unlikely to definitively identify who fired the fatal shots, the prosecution intends to prove Davis masterminded the murder and supplied the weapon. His defense attorneys argue there is no evidence he ordered the killing. Davis himself has spoken publicly in recent years about being in the white Cadillac from which the shots were fired in Las Vegas. He has stated he is the only surviving occupant of the vehicle, but claims his nephew fired the shots. The nephew died in a shooting in 1998. Shakur, 25, was with Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight on the night of the incident and died six days later in the hospital. Shakur was one of the most successful artists of the 1990s, though he was also involved in criminal activities and served prison time. He remains a revered figure for millions of fans worldwide.
