Turkey releases 1,500 birds to combat ticks naturally

In a bid to bolster natural pest control, the Erbaa Municipality in Turkey has released 1,500 partridges and pheasants into their natural habitats. The initiative, titled "Partridges and Pheasants Meet Nature," aims to enhance biodiversity and preserve ecological balance within the region.

Erbaa Mayor Ertuğrul Karagöl emphasized the municipality's commitment to natural solutions, particularly in light of concerns over tick-borne diseases such as Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). "We are aware of the problems caused by ticks in the region, and that is why we attach importance to natural struggle," Karagöl stated. He noted that the municipality has operated a partridge and pheasant farm since 2006, releasing over a thousand birds annually.

Karagöl highlighted the potential harm of chemical pest control methods to other wildlife, underscoring the value of the natural approach. "We value this natural struggle. God willing, we will continue to produce and sustain the natural struggle," he added. The release program was attended by local officials, including Erbaa District Governor Remzi Demir.

The initiative reflects a growing awareness of the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the benefits of supporting natural predator-prey relationships to manage pest populations effectively and sustainably.
