TV host addresses couple's breakup after 'Inconvenient Questions' interview

Rolandas Mackevičius, host of the Lithuanian show “Nepatogūs klausimai” (Inconvenient Questions), has issued a statement following the breakup of a couple who were interviewed on his program. The host suggested that the relationship's demise was an unintended consequence of the show's intense questioning.

After the show “Nepatogūs klausimai” in Palanga, after the interview with O. Pikul and D. Dirksčius, the couple broke up. This was not planned, this was not the goal of our show, but unfortunately, we probably prepared too many facts, too many tests, too many control questions in the show, which perhaps were uncomfortable for them, maybe difficult, maybe sometimes they failed to answer – their stories differed, their places and dates differed. Let's call it, both one and the other got caught in the snares we prepared.

In a video posted on Instagram, Mackevičius explained that after the show's episode featuring O. Pikul and D. Dirksčius in Palanga, the couple separated. He emphasized that this was not planned or the show's objective. However, he speculated that the program might have presented too many facts, tests, and control questions that made the couple uncomfortable or unable to answer consistently, leading to discrepancies in their stories and timelines.

Mackevičius asserted that he and his team did not intend to harm anyone. He noted that the full episode, which aired on August 1, was significantly edited due to sensitive content. Despite the cuts, he stated that the remaining material was ready for viewing.

Although, I admit, not complete. We cut it significantly because some parts are simply awkward to show. But what is there, is already prepared.

Reactions from viewers on social media were mixed. Some commenters supported Mackevičius, attributing the breakup to the couple's own issues rather than the show's questions. Others, however, seemed to agree with the host's assessment, suggesting that the program's probing questions revealed fundamental incompatibilities.
