Two arrested in Mexico City for suspected double homicide

Authorities in Mexico City have arrested two 25-year-old men in Iztapalapa, identifying them as prime suspects in a double homicide that occurred on July 25 in the La Magdalena Contreras neighborhood. The arrests were the result of a thorough investigation by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), which utilized surveillance footage from the C2 Poniente command center to track the suspects' movements after the fatal shooting.

The incident reportedly began when the victims were involved in an altercation with a group of individuals. The assailants allegedly opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene in a vehicle disguised as a taxi. The SSC's virtual tracking efforts led officers to locate two men matching the suspects' descriptions on Tláhuac Avenue in the El Vergel neighborhood of Iztapalapa.

During a preliminary search, officers discovered a handgun with one live round, 26 bags containing what appeared to be marijuana, a backpack, and a mobile phone. Both men were taken into custody and handed over to a prosecutor, who will determine their legal status and continue the investigation into their alleged involvement in the double homicide. The SSC noted that one of the detainees has a substantial criminal history, with multiple previous arrests for various forms of robbery between 2022 and 2026, and several citations for public intoxication and drug use. The second detainee has one citation for similar administrative offenses.
