Two arrested, over two kilos of cocaine seized in Paraguay drug bust

An anti-drug operation in Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay, resulted in the seizure of over two kilograms of cocaine and the arrest of two individuals suspected of supplying illicit substances.

Agents from the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) raided a residence near the regional penitentiary in the capital of Amambay. The operation yielded 1.045 kg of cocaine hydrochloride and 1.026 kg of cocaine base, totaling 2.071 kg of cocaine. Additionally, 122 grams of pressed marijuana and 20 grams of chopped marijuana were confiscated.

The arrested individuals were identified as Heriberto Ramón García Gauto, 42, and Alexis Chamorro Gómez, 28. Investigators believe the pair supplied drugs to local distribution points, known as "bocas de fumo," and potentially even to inmates within the Pedro Juan Caballero Penitentiary.

Besides the drugs, Senad agents seized two mobile phones, G. 800,000 and US$100 in cash, ammunition for 9mm and 5.56 caliber firearms, and a black Chevrolet Onix automobile. The arrested suspects and all confiscated evidence have been placed at the disposal of the Amambay anti-drug prosecutor, Celso Morales, who is expected to file charges in the coming hours.
