Paraguay: Indigenous man charged with double homicide in Bella Vista Norte

The Public Ministry in Paraguay has formally charged a 22-year-old indigenous man, Cristhian Gómez Corvalán, with double homicide following a fatal stabbing incident in Bella Vista Norte, Amambay department. The victims, identified as brothers Fredy Gómez Romero, 41, and Albino Gómez Romero, 32, were both indigenous and reportedly died from stab wounds.

According to the Public Ministry, a fiscal case has been opened to investigate the attack, which involved a homemade bladed weapon resembling a machete. The incident is believed to have stemmed from a dispute between the victims and the alleged perpetrator in the San Antonio neighborhood of Bella Vista Norte.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack, including a detail provided by the Public Ministry suggesting the victims might have belonged to an ethnic group considered "contrary" to that of the detained suspect. The scene of the double homicide was secured by authorities.

Neighbors reportedly apprehended Gómez Corvalán shortly after the incident. He sustained an injury to his right arm and was transported to a medical center for treatment. The case is being investigated by prosecutor Sandra Díaz of Pedro Juan Caballero.
