Two car accidents in West Iceland cause vehicle damage, no serious injuries

Two separate car accidents in Iceland's Vesturland region have resulted in considerable vehicle damage, though fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The first incident occurred near Þrístapar on Route 1, where a head-on collision took place during an overtaking attempt. According to Höskuldur B. Erlingsson, deputy chief of police for Vesturland, both vehicles involved are now considered inoperable and likely beyond repair.

Erlingsson anticipates traffic disruptions due to the accident. The initial report of this collision came in around 5 p.m., and the driver of one of the vehicles was taken to Blönduós for examination, though their injuries were not deemed severe.

A second traffic accident was reported shortly after in the same region, on the Hrútafjallsháls mountain pass. Details regarding this second incident are still limited, but it is also expected to contribute to traffic delays in the area.
