Two detained with 30 military-grade rifles in Pedro Juan Caballero formally charged

Paraguayan prosecutors have charged two brothers detained in Pedro Juan Caballero after authorities found three kilograms of marijuana and 30 rifles during a raid on a home in the city’s Virgen de Caacupé neighborhood.

Antidrug prosecutor Celso Morales identified the suspects as Blas Antonio and Fredy Alberto Figueredo López. He charged them with unauthorized possession of dangerous drugs, referring to pressed and loose marijuana that investigators described as potentially high-potency or premium.

Morales requested that both men be sent to prison. He said the brothers had the opportunity to testify before the Public Prosecutor’s Office but chose not to do so.

The National Anti-Drug Secretariat, known as Senad, carried out the operation on Sunday and detained the brothers at the residence. The raid also produced 30 7.62-caliber rifles, described in the report as war weapons.

Morales said the weapons investigation would not remain in Pedro Juan Caballero. Following an order from the Attorney General’s Office, authorities transferred the case involving the arsenal to the Organized Crime Unit in Asunción. Prosecutor Ingrid Cubilla will take charge of that inquiry, while the drug-possession case remains linked to the charges announced in Amambay.
