Two Gbana-based Nigerians face trial over compatriot’s murder

Ghana's police are preparing to prosecute two Nigerian nationals arrested for allegedly murdering a fellow Nigerian, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, in Tamale. The victim was reportedly killed after being accused of withholding money from their alleged internet fraud operations.

Police investigations commenced after a report was received that the deceased had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom.

The Northern Regional Police Command apprehended the suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, following the discovery of Eze's body in his residence at Sanzirigu on Saturday. Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased lived with his wife, the two suspects, and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor, in a shared apartment.

Investigators found the victim lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his forehead, and a towel stuffed in his mouth. The room had also been ransacked. A wooden pestle, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene. The body was taken to Tamale Teaching Hospital, where death was confirmed before being moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

A team of investigators immediately visited the scene, where examination revealed that the deceased had sustained a deep cut wound to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. The room had also been ransacked.

Intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa at Tatale as they attempted to flee to Togo via the Tatale border. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to conspiring to murder Eze over the alleged withholding of internet fraud proceeds. Police also recovered multiple mobile phones, laptops, jewelry, and other valuables believed to have been stolen from the victim's room.
