Two Hikers Found Dead on Mount Piramid in Bondowoso After Going Missing

Tragedy has struck Mount Piramid in Bondowoso, East Java, as two hikers who were reported missing have been found dead. The deceased have been identified as Maliya Finda, 51, from Surabaya, and Irfan Nasrul Laili, 35, a guide from Wonosari, Bondowoso.

The joint SAR (Search and Rescue) team discovered the bodies on Tuesday, August 4th, at approximately 12:13 PM WIB. According to Jefriyanzah, Coordinator of the Jember SAR Post, the hikers were found at the bottom of a cliff with a steep incline of about 40 degrees and a depth of approximately 60 meters.

The bodies were located about 5 meters apart from each other. The evacuation process, initially scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to challenging terrain and weather conditions. The SAR team commenced the operation on Wednesday morning, employing a lifting method to bring the bodies up to the 'punggung naga' (dragon's back) post.

From there, the bodies will be moved in stages to Post II by a dedicated evacuation team. The extensive SAR operation involves multiple agencies, including the Jember SAR Post Rescue Team, Banyuwangi SAR Office, BPBD Bondowoso, TNI-Polri, PMI, Satuan Brimob, APGI, Wanadri, SAR volunteers, nature lovers' communities, and local residents, all working together in the difficult recovery effort.
