Two large planes narrowly avoid crash on Sydney Airport runway; one injured

A near-catastrophe unfolded at Sydney Airport as a Jetstar Airbus A320 and a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 aircraft narrowly avoided a collision during ground operations. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched an investigation into the Sunday morning incident.

The Jetstar flight, JQ402 bound for the Gold Coast, was taxiing under its own power toward the runway. Its crew, however, had to brake suddenly after spotting the Qatar Airways plane, being towed by a vehicle, in dangerously close proximity to their path.

Both aircraft were brought to an abrupt halt.

As a result of the emergency stop, one member of the Jetstar cabin crew sustained injuries. Additionally, the connection between the Qatar Airways aircraft's front landing gear and its tow tractor was damaged. Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas, confirmed it is also investigating the incident, stating its pilots were following air traffic control instructions when the near-miss occurred.
