Two Men Jailed 14 Days, Fined RM8,000 for Selling Fake Medical Certificates

A factory worker and an unemployed man have been sentenced to 14 days in jail and fined RM8,000 each by the Kuantan Magistrate's Court for their involvement in selling fake medical certificates (MCs).

Mohd. Shukrie Zainuddin, 28, and Muhammad Asyraf Zunaidy, 31, pleaded guilty to the charges. They were accused of dishonestly creating 40 fake MCs, using the name of a clinic and the signature of a doctor from that clinic. The fraudulent activity allegedly took place between March 28 and July 13, 2026, with the intent to deceive.

Prosecutors stated that the scheme was exposed when a factory and the clinic noticed fake MCs being used by factory employees. A police investigation confirmed that 40 MCs, purportedly from 17 workers, were indeed fake. Further checks revealed that one of the accused was selling these counterfeit documents.

Police arrested the two men on August 5, seizing a fake stamp and 24 fake MCs from the same clinic, with more documents still being processed for forgery. The court ordered the jail sentence to commence from the date of arrest. The men were represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation, who appealed for a fine-only sentence.
