Two police officers sent to prosecutors for faking overtime records and pocketing pay

Two police officers in the Gwangju area have been transferred to prosecutors on charges of falsifying electronic records and defrauding overtime pay. The Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced on the 6th that the two officers, affiliated with the Dongbu Police Station, were sent to the prosecution without detention on charges of forgery of electronic records.

Authorities allege that the officers manipulated the system between March and August of last year. They are accused of creating false access records on the police computer network or submitting fraudulent approval requests to claim overtime pay. The investigation began in December last year after a complaint was filed.

Investigators determined that while the officers applied for approximately 40 hours of overtime each month due to their work in investigative units requiring shift changes, some of these claims were fabricated. The police department plans to conduct a separate internal audit alongside the criminal investigation.
