Two suspected extortionists arrested in Cuauhtémoc after allegedly robbing shopkeeper

Mexico City police arrested two men accused of extorting a shopkeeper in the Cuauhtémoc borough after allegedly entering her business and demanding cash.

The woman asked officers for help while they were patrolling Calzada de la Viga in the Tránsito neighborhood. She said the men claimed to belong to a criminal group and threatened to harm her relatives or damage her business if she refused to make the payments.

The suspects fled on two scooters, but operators at the C2 Centro command and control center located them at the intersection of Sotero Castañeda and Ramón Aldana streets. Police intercepted them there.

During a preventive search, officers seized four mobile phones, a blue scooter, a gray scooter, cash and various objects that the complainant identified as her property. The men, aged 28 and 35, were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office along with the seized items and vehicles while authorities determine their legal status.
