Two Tainan restaurants catch fire; one blaze causes significant kitchen damage

Firefighters in Tainan City responded to two separate restaurant fires on the morning of August 9th, with one blaze causing substantial damage to a popular Cantonese eatery.

The first incident occurred around 9 a.m. in the Zhongxi District, where thick smoke billowed from the third floor of a three-story Cantonese restaurant on Qingzhong Street. Upon arrival, emergency crews found flames erupting from the top floor. They confirmed no one was trapped inside.

Firefighters quickly moved to extinguish the fire, which was concentrated in the kitchen area. The blaze caused considerable damage to kitchen equipment and furnishings, with an estimated burning area of 20 square meters. The fire also spread slightly to an adjacent building, affecting about 2 square meters. Firefighting operations continued until around 10 a.m. to manage residual heat, and an investigation into the cause is underway.

Later that morning, at approximately 9:41 a.m., the fire department received a report of smoke emanating from a ramen shop on Wencheng 3rd Road in the North District. However, before fire crews could reach the scene, a security guard on patrol noticed the smoke and managed to extinguish a small fire that had started in a refrigerator. Firefighters who were dispatched to the scene were able to return en route after confirming the situation was under control.
