Two Teenagers Rescued on Lake Ohrid on SUP Boards; Wind and Waves Pushed Them Offshore

Two teenagers were rescued on Lake Ohrid after being carried away from the shore by strong winds and waves while using stand-up paddleboards. The incident prompted a swift response from the lake police.

The Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia reported that at approximately 7:55 PM, the police station for border surveillance of Lake Ohrid received a call. The report indicated that two individuals on SUP boards, located about 1,000 meters from the shore opposite an auto-camp, were calling for help.

Officers from the lake police immediately proceeded to the reported location. They observed the two individuals on their boards, approximately 2,000 meters from the shore. The teenagers were struggling to stay afloat and seeking assistance as the weather conditions deteriorated rapidly.

The police officers approached the individuals and took measures to safely transfer them onto police boats. It was determined that the individuals were E.S. (19) and I.A. (18), both residents of Ohrid. Due to the sudden worsening of weather, characterized by strong winds and large waves, they were being pushed further from the shore and were unable to return. They were safely transported to the lake police facilities.

Police officers immediately approached and took measures to safely transfer them into police boats, after which they determined that they were residents of Ohrid E.S. (19) and I.A. (18), who, due to the sudden worsening of weather conditions with strong wind and large waves, were increasingly moving away on the boards and could not return to the shore.
