Two-Way Race Set for FAM Presidency as Hamidin Withdraws

The race for the Football Association of Malaysia presidency has narrowed to two candidates after Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin withdrew from contention.

FAM confirmed that Malaysia Football League president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan and Selangor Football Association deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar will compete for the remaining 2025-2029 term. The association released the candidate list for its Executive Committee election, scheduled for the second 2026 FAM Extraordinary Congress on Sept. 17.

Hamidin had been linked to the contest for the top position but chose not to participate. The election will also feature competition for other leadership posts. Datuk Seri Rosmadi Ismail, Mohd Firdaus Mohamed and Syed Yazid Syed Omar are contesting the first vice-president position, while Datuk Saaran Nadarajah and Afizal Abu Othman face each other for the third vice-president post.

Seven candidates will compete for two executive committee seats in the FC category. Three FA-category seats are also being contested, while two candidates each are standing for one professional seat and one women’s seat. FAM said all nominations had undergone review and confirmation under its statutes and election rules.

The new leadership will set the association’s direction for the rest of the 2025-2029 term and continue its national football development agenda.
