Typhoon Bailu's Outer Circulation Brings Heavy Rain to 12 Counties, Cities; Taipei and 3 Other Areas Face Severe Downpour Warnings

Typhoon Bailu's outer circulation is causing significant rainfall across Taiwan, prompting the Central Weather Administration to issue heavy rain and torrential rain advisories for 12 counties and cities. As of noon on August 9, the typhoon was located approximately 350 kilometers northeast of Taipei. Its influence is particularly strong in central and northern Taiwan, as well as in the mountainous regions of the central and southern parts of the island.

Specific areas are on high alert for severe downpours. Taipei's mountainous areas, along with the mountainous regions of Hsinchu and Miaoli counties, are under a "severe torrential rain" warning. The northern coast, mountainous areas of New Taipei City, and mountainous areas of Taoyuan are expected to experience heavy to torrential rain. Additionally, areas north of Taichung, Nantou, and Yilan, as well as mountainous areas in Yunlin and Chiayi, have a chance of experiencing heavy rain.

Due to the influence of Typhoon Bailu's outer circulation, rainfall is significant in central and northern Taiwan, as well as in the mountainous areas of the central and southern regions. The Central Weather Administration has issued heavy rain advisories for 12 counties and cities.

The Central Weather Administration is warning of the potential for short-duration, intense rainfall, along with thunder and strong wind gusts. Residents in mountainous areas are urged to be cautious of landslides, falling rocks, mudslides, and rising river levels. Low-lying areas are also at risk of flooding.

From August 7 to August 9, significant rainfall accumulation has already been recorded. Taipei's Xiaoyoukeng has received 405.0 mm, while Taiwan's Xiaoxueshan Forest Road in Taichung recorded 282.5 mm, and Leshan Forest Road in Hsinchu logged 227.5 mm. The advisories highlight the immediate risks posed by the ongoing weather system.
