Typhoon Dolphin Weakens, Taiwan Weather Agency Eyes Lifting Sea Warning

Typhoon Dolphin, currently a moderate typhoon, is showing signs of weakening and is expected to move west-northwest, away from Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) predicts the sea warning may be lifted as early as tomorrow morning.

"Typhoon Dolphin has weakened slightly over the past three hours," said Wu Wan-hua, deputy director of the CWA's Forecast Center. "It is currently located about 260 kilometers northwest of Matsu and continues to move west-northwest. The storm's circulation is gradually passing over Taiwan's northern sea areas."

While the typhoon's intensity is decreasing, northern and northeastern Taiwan, as well as southern mountainous areas, are still expected to experience rain today. Coastal regions may encounter strong winds. The CWA forecasts that Dolphin will weaken to the upper limit of a light typhoon within six hours and is expected to enter China's Zhejiang province tonight.

Heavy rainfall has already impacted Taiwan, with Taipei's mountainous areas reporting localized torrential downpours. The CWA has issued a heavy rain advisory. As the typhoon moves away, rainfall in northern Taiwan is expected to ease tonight, while central and southern areas may see intermittent showers due to the typhoon's outer circulation and southwesterly winds. Coastal areas, particularly the Keelung North Coast, are at risk of seawater inundation due to high tides and potential storm surges.
