UAE donates $10 million to Colombia for earthquake relief

The United Arab Emirates has provided a $10 million donation to Colombia to assist with the aftermath of a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that devastated much of the country earlier this week. The funds are intended to address the most critical needs arising from the disaster.

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella expressed deep gratitude for the solidarity and generous contribution from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He stated on X that the gesture underscores the strong friendship between the two nations during this emergency, which has resulted in 265 fatalities, 3,494 injuries, and thousands displaced from their homes.

"This show of friendship strengthens the ties between Colombia and the United Arab Emirates, which we will further enhance for the benefit of our peoples," the president added. He has personally visited the areas most severely impacted by the seismic event.

Colombia is also receiving aid from other international partners. Spain has sent one million euros in medicine, essential kits, and specialized medical personnel, according to Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares. The United States has pledged $15.5 million for emergency shelters, food, protection, and damage assessment. Additionally, the World Bank has allocated $200,000 for damage assessment, and CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, has contributed $500,000 for humanitarian needs.
