UEFA prepares lawsuit against FIFA President Infantino for alleged disloyal management

UEFA is preparing to take legal action against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, accusing him of 'disloyal management' in Swiss courts. The controversy centers on a failed project that aimed to open the organization's events, including the World Cup, to external investment.

According to documentation submitted by UEFA to a Florida court, the goal of this legal move is to obtain records from FIFA's U.S. subsidiaries. UEFA asserts that the secret plan not only sought to boost revenue but was also intended as a vehicle for Infantino and a select group of associates to gain a permanent stake in FIFA's most valuable assets, to the detriment of FIFA itself, its members, and other football stakeholders.

If the lawsuit is successful, the Italian-Swiss official could face charges carrying penalties of up to five years in prison. The legal action aims to demonstrate that Infantino's actions directly and concretely prejudiced the reputation of the world football governing body.

Internal objections were also highlighted, including those from Carlos Cordeiro, a former advisor to Infantino, who resigned after describing the proposal as 'a bad deal for football.' Once evidence is gathered in the United States, UEFA intends to formalize its complaint in Switzerland to prove that the FIFA president acted with full knowledge that his actions would harm the institution.
