Uganda urges trainers to equip local government leaders with practical governance skills

Ben Kumumanya, the Permanent Secretary in Uganda's Ministry of Local Government, has called on trainers to ensure they equip newly elected local government leaders with essential practical governance skills. Drawing from over three decades of experience in decentralization, Kumumanya emphasized the importance of hands-on training for effective leadership.

His guidance is directed at trainers who are preparing to induct the incoming cohort of Local Government Council leaders. Kumumanya stressed that the training should focus on actionable knowledge and real-world application, enabling these leaders to better serve their communities.

The initiative seeks to strengthen local governance structures across Uganda by ensuring that elected officials possess the necessary competencies to manage local affairs efficiently. This focus on practical skills aims to improve service delivery and foster development at the grassroots level.
